This brief is a live assignment for the Manchester science and industry museum. They have asked me to create a set of three limited edition posters which explores the theme of ‘complexity’ focusing on the Industrial Revolution. The posters will promote a permanent exhibition which is held in the Power Hall which displays steam engines, that has help to shape our world.
The client has asked for the posters to be modern, clean, and visually interesting to engage the general public interest. The posters can either be A4 or A3 in size the client has allowed me to make this decision.
The posters will be sold within their museum shop as well as being displayed around the museum. So, they will need to be framed and look professional. The posters main purpose is to encourage more people to come to view the permanent exhibition within the museum so the target audience is for everyone.
My client would like the set of posters to incorporate generative design which will symbolize the parallels between man-made and human form regarding the repetitive movement. These machines where cutting edge of there time like generative design is now. The visual look for the work could focus on the moving parts which make up the man-made structures.
I will gather primary research in the form of such as visiting museums and gathering second hand research such as looking at 5 artists who produce generative design work. From looking at this it will help me with developing my own work for this project.
Final print work must be submitted on the 11.05.17 this will also include all the research I have done for the project. All of my research and development will be on my online blog.
Alongside this I will have a timetable with all of my deadlines on it, and I will also be completing a weekly planner to keep myself on track for each stage of this project.

Key points / context
The client would like me to explore and promote their exhibition within the Power Hall. As well as this they want me to push the boundaries as far as possible to create limited-edition posters which are visible interesting and engaging for their audience.
The target audience is wide open because it can cover people from men, women, children and those that are interested in art or science. I want the poster to be creative and engage the audience. As well as this I want the posters to be contemporary and have a fresh feel to them and have a strong concept behind them.
For this project, I will be creating generative design on processing and exporting them into illustrator to create the posters layout.
Analyzing Brief for extending specialist Techniques
To start off this project I first began to analyse the brief and highlight information that was relevant for this project.
The aim of this brief is to create work in a specialist area, through using research and experimenting.
These images above shows parts of how I have stated to break down the brief as well as other information I need to be aware of. This is a good starting point to help me begin analysing my brief.
These are some of the things that I need to be aware of when starting a project to help me plan my time successfully and keep to a deadline.
This brief is a live assignment for the Manchester science and industry museum. For this project, the client would like me to explore the theme of ‘complexity’. I will be focusing on the Industry Revolution which is a large part of this museum and the man-made objects such as Engines. I will gather primary research such as go to museum and second hand research such as 5 artists work I will be looking at, doing this will help me with this project. They would like to sell this work in the shop within the museum. They also want the poster to encourage more people to come to the museum.
Final print work must be submitted on the 11.05.17 this will also include all the research I have done for the project.
Alongside I will be completing a weekly planner to keep myself on track for each stage for this project.

I will experiment to create work that is unique and has a strong conceptual idea behind it.
-Focus on specific making/ Production methods you want to develop your skills in.
-Produce work informed by Research and experimentation
-Final piece/s supported by research and experimentation
-Programming or different specialist areas
-Responsible for managing own production process
-linking to themes
-renewing and refining work
-Defining goals of experiments
-Document on sketchbook or blog
I will need to research the following areas
- The Theme
- Specialist Area (processing, will also need to watch tutorials)
- First hand research
- Seconded hand research – (books, magazines and the internet such as pintrest)
For my specialist area I will be looking into programming, I have choose this area because I would like to improve my skills in this area and have them look more professional.
As I am responsible for this projected, managing my own process, aim research ares, experiments I have done I time table to manage my time effectively.
